Thank God for silly little things

Tuesdays are my least favorite. Monday is the beginning of week, so I am usually over-enthusiastic and over-cheerful for no reason at all, promising myself how good and productive I am going to make this week. But on Tuesday suddenly reality strikes, and I realize that this is just another week and I am no super-mom or super-wife or super-woman; and there is still a long way to go for a weekend. So, I wake up wishing for a good reason to draw myself out of bed; when I see my husband snoring off and all I can remember is that I am mad at him. Thank God for sleep, because I can't remember why i am mad. But I know for sure that 'I am mad'.

So, half sleepy, half mad and half wondering why I am mad (I know there are supposed to be only two halves; but I am sleepy and I can't do the math right), I push myself to get ready and leave and forcefully swallow a burnt toast. Great! No milk at home, so I just have to put up with the burnt taste in my mouth which water cannot wash down. Rushing out I remember I forgot my purse and curse myself for having to climb up the stairs (Remember, it is not Monday anymore; so I am not over joyed about the extra flight of stairs that would show up on my Fitbit). On my way back down, I cross paths with The Husband who says a cheerful Bye; and I nod my head tersely reminding myself that I am angry and I can't get lovey-dovey; yet, at the same time willing myself to remember why I am so angry at him. But I know for sure that 'I am mad'.

It's a chilly morning and I forgot my jacket yet again. Cold! Aaargh! It's too early to be this cold! On the road, at the wheel,  I am still wondering why this day is so lousy. I cross a traffic light just when it was about to turn red; and feel a small surge of spirit, but then the next minute I find myself right behind a school bus, which means I would be stopping at every block till the end of the one lane road, which today seems to stretch forever. Just the perfect start to the perfect day. Crap! I text my friend - 'I am irritated and I need to vent. Let's catch up over coffee'. Once again, I try hard to remember why it is a crappy day. But I know for sure that 'I am mad'.
My thoughts are broken by a car that zooms past the school bus; and I curse that idiot under my breath, 'Does he think I am a fool to be waiting'. My train of thoughts begin to wander - how is it possible for some people to have no sense of respect for rules; no courtesy to fellow people; no road sense; no sense in general; no respect for life; no respect for their own health; wait a minute - what did I pack for lunch today? rice and potatoes? what will I do for my serving of vegetable today; I can't eat that boring salad from cafe again. I hate it. (groan!)
Suddenly, a flash of light hits me and interrupts my thoughts. It was sunlight reflected off of a mirror on the truck in front of me. Every time the truck swerved or bumped a little; every time the sunlight filtered through the trees by the side; there was that cheerful dance of light. It was cute; I smile and I keep watching, waiting for that occasional flash. It was simple, even mundane but it brought a smile every single time it happened. The road forks and the truck turns and goes its way; but I still keep smiling and I turn my way to reach office.I step out of the car and realize that the misty morning with the filtered sunlight is beautiful, with trees which have already started changing color due to the temperature change. It is chilly but surprisingly it did not bother me now; I just hug myself and walk into office with a small jump in my steps. My friend stops by my desk and asks "You wanted to vent?". I smile and say "I don't think so". She is puzzled and asks "Oh? When I saw your text I thought you probably fought with your husband". I replied "Oh no! Why would I? He is the sweetest!".

Life is just beautiful; and sometimes, it is just a silly mirror that makes you realize it.
